The Sun Painting

Overview

While most designers focus on addressing the pressing challenges faced by products and services, we focus on exploring the will of the product itself. The core approach of the Sun Painting project is to visualize the sun’s intellect. This effort to represent the sun’s thoughts might seem to align with our own design thinking, but we intentionally minimize direct interaction by creating a sun-centered system based on data collection and analysis. Thus, the system functions as an interpreter of the sun’s intentions. This project is ongoing, and our team will continue to develop and refine this sun-centered system in the future.

Drafting

Brain Storming

The first step in our creative process is to brainstorm devices that can transmit messages from the sun.

Concept Development

After deciding on two main focuses, the group begins to elaborate on the system and design of the two devices.

Final Draft

The final sketches are drawn after several rounds of testing.

Modeling & Testing

Research & Wireframes

Moving forward to the making phase, our group splits into two teams, with each pair conducting research. Thin wooden sticks are used for their flexibility. We also collect data on the sun and its variables over time.

Testing Models

In the second round of making, our team uses more durable materials. Additionally, as the pairs set up their Arduinos, we move on to testing the devices.

Finalization

After two rounds of testing and refinement, our group wrapped up the project.
